Marjan Oudeman chooses not to extend her appointment as President of the Executive Board for a second term. Her first term ends on 1 July 2017.

Marjan Oudeman was appointed President of the Executive Board of Utrecht University as of 1 July 2013. Prior to this, her positions included membership of the Executive Committee of Akzo Nobel and of the Executive Committee of Corus Group. In Utrecht, Oudeman's portfolio included Strategy, HR, Communication & Marketing and Valorisation. In addition, she fulfilled various ancillary positions, both in the business world and the sociocultural sector.

Marjan Oudeman: ‘I really enjoy working at Utrecht University. It is a privilege to contribute to an organisation that provides young adults with the opportunity to excel and where we work at the frontiers of knowledge. It is particularly at the intersection of academia and society that I harness my experience in various sectors in society. I would like to spend more time than I now find myself able to on such meaningful exchanges where various societal sectors meet. As a result, after long and careful thought, I have decided not to spend four more years fulfilling this wonderful position.’

Emmo Meijer, chairman of the Supervisory Board of Utrecht University: ‘The Supervisory Board regrets that Marjan Oudeman has decided thus despite fully understanding her decision. She has made a major contribution to connecting Utrecht University to the outside world in the past years, in particular to the business world. A good example of this is the Advanced Research Center Chemical Building Blocks Consortium in which three universities (Utrecht, Eindhoven and Groningen), the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research, the Ministry of Economic Affairs, the chemistry top sector, Akzo Nobel, BASF and Shell are working together to increase sustainability of the energy supply.’

Bert van der Zwaan, Rector Magnificus: ‘Marjan Oudeman has meant a lot to Utrecht University. She led the effort to draw up the new and ambitious University Strategic Plan 2016-2020, which has laid the foundation for the Utrecht University of the future.’

The Supervisory Board will begin the procedure to find a successor to Marjan Oudeman in a timely fashion.
