La Vuelta is coming to the Utrecht Science Park (USP) this summer

After the Tour de France and the Giro d'Italia, Utrecht once again welcomes the cycling peloton. On 20 August 2022, the second stage of the Tour of Spain will finish in the USP. This makes Utrecht the first city in the world to host all three major cycling tours.

Anton Pijpers, chairman of the Executive Board of Utrecht University: "The Vuelta is a wonderful event. It's great that it starts in Utrecht and that the Utrecht Science Park is on the route as the finish location! The international and sporting character of the Vuelta is a perfect match for us and the work we do together with other institutions and companies on the Science Park. Together with our staff, students and partners, we will celebrate and also scientifically research the impact of the event. As a cycling enthusiast and UU employee, I am really looking forward to it!”

Finish and party

On the day of the stage, it is possible to come and watch the finish (nearby) at the edge of the track. The cyclists finish on the Leuvenlaan, near the Minnaert building.

There are various activities on 20 August and in the run-up to this special event. The Domrenner cycling association is organising a festival in the Utrecht Science Park on this day, you can visit a cycling exhibition organised by the library and you can admire 21 banners spread along the route created by students from the Graphic Lyceum Utrecht.
