COVID-19: From Global Challenge to Global Transformation? Perspectives from students around the world

The Utrecht University Centre for Global Challenges organizes a webinar series where students from around the globe, together with UU experts, reflect on the global nature of the COVID-19 crisis and the transformative implications for our societies, including economic, social, cultural, political, and environmental.

Transformative implications

In late December 2019 the world learned of a new virus: COVID-19. Three months later much of the world was in lockdown. States of emergencies were called, borders were closed, air traffic grinded to a halt, and economic activity stopped in its tracks. Social distancing became a new normal with penalties to those who violate it.

Will COVID-19 have transformative longer term implications on our societies? Ranging from the way in which we approach global health systems, develop pathways to sustainability, foster institutions for open societies, and ensure equitable opportunities for today’s youth.

Each webinar will explore a different angle. Students from different countries around the globe will meet virtually to share their perspectives and discuss these with experts from Utrecht University.
