Coming Out Day 2022

Presentation research on perception rainbow cycle path

Coming Out Day is an international day of awareness and respect for LGBTIQ+ persons. Every year on 11 October, we at Utrecht University also reflect on being yourself, regardless of your sexual orientation or gender identity. See the rainbow flag at the Administration Building or come and listen to the presentation of the research on the perception of the rainbow cycle path.

Raising the rainbow flag at the Administration Building

To get the day off to a festive start, in the morning we will symbolically raise the progressive rainbow flag at the Utrecht University Administration Building (Heidelberglaan 8) as well as at the Hogeschool Utrecht (Padualaan 99). Because it is such an important topic, the Hogeschool and the University are cooperating in this.

Rainbow cycle path at Utrecht Science Park

Thanks to an idea by Hogeschool Utrecht student Elias van Mourik (22), the longest rainbow cycle path in the world has been at the Utrecht Science Park since October 2021. With the rainbow cycle path, Utrecht University, Hogeschool Utrecht and UMC Utrecht are calling attention to acceptance, equality and safety of all people from the LGBTIQ+ community. But what do staff and students really think about it? Did it bring about anything and did it achieve any of its objectives? By Milou Van de Brug (social sciences student) under the guidance of Miriam Wickham (PhD), research was conducted among students and staff on the perception of the rainbow cycle path. On Coming Out Day, they will present the results of this research.
