Anneloes Krul new student assessor of the Executive Board

As of 1 September Anneloes Krul is the new student-assessor of the Executive Board of Utrecht University. She succeeds Merel Dekker.

The Executive Board is happy with the arrival of Krul. Last year, for the first time in the history of our university, we experimented with a student assessor in the Executive Board, because we want to involve the student community better in our policies. Merel Dekker has consistently brought the student perspective into discussions and that has been of great value. It is very nice that Anneloes is wants to take over, says university president Anton Pijpers.

Krul is a student of Sociology. Last year she was assessor of the faculty board of the Faculty of Social Sciences. She has also been chairman and secretary of studentparticipation association VUUR. She does not only stand up for the interests of students: the employees are also close to her heart. She was one of the initiators of the #10000 uren action, to put the workload of lecturers on the agenda.

Although the gesture was well received, I notice that I like tackling problems rather than raising them, says Anneloes. I think I can contribute well to that in the role of student-assessor. One of her focal points is the Utrecht educational model and how it functions in practice. In addition, as a UU student and member of the LGBTQ+ community, I want to focus on inclusion of all students within Utrecht University.

Krul will participate in the weekly meetings of the Executive Board and in other meetings relevant to policy development at the university level, such as the bilateral meetings with faculty boards, and the consultations of the Executive Board with deans. The emphasis will be on education- and student-related issues. In order to be well informed, she will maintain close contact with students and in particular the student assistants in the faculties, the student organisations and the students in the University Council.

Krul was appointed on the recommendation of an appointment advisory committee comprising the rector magnificus, the director of Student Affairs Education & Research, a representative of the student section of the University Council, a faculty student assessor and the chair of VIDIUS.
