The Maastricht Centre of European Law (MCEL) and the Utrecht Centre for Regulation and Enforcement in Europe (RENFORCE) are delighted to invite you to the inter-university webinar: Same Old? Debating the New European Pact on Migration and Asylum.

The webinar will take place on Zoom on 20 October 2020 (13.30-17-00). It is a unique opportunity to bring together academics and policymakers to comment on the New Pact on Migration and Asylum launched by the European Commission last 23 September 2020. The Pact is expected to provide a fresh start and to overcome legal and policy blockages in the areas of EU migration, asylum and external border control. Is it up to the task though? The Pact’s constitutional design, its reception by the co-legislators (Council and European Parliament), the evolving role of EU agencies at the external borders, co-operation with third countries, solidarity, regular migration and emergency management are some of the issues that will be debated in this interactive webinar.

The webinar is jointly convened by Lilian Tsourdi (MCEL/Maastricht University) and Salvo Nicolosi (RENFORCE/Utrecht University) and features the contributions of Bruno De Witte (University of Maastricht/EUI), Daniel Thym (University of Konstanz), Nanda Kellij (Dutch Ministry of Justice), Philippe De Bruycker (Université libre de Bruxelles & Odysseus Network), Dina Siegel (University of Utrecht), Paul Minderhoud (Universities of Utrecht & Nijmegen), and Tineke Strik (MEP & University of Nijmegen).
