In the year 2020, we often state that humans are alienated from nature. But was it different thousands of years ago? How did the relationship between man and nature develop, and what influence did man have on biodiversity? During Big History #3 on 7 April, Professor Jan Luiten van Zanden (Economic and Social History Utrecht University) constructs this interaction in four steps - hunter-gatherer, farmer, industrialist and nature conservationist - which shows that man sometimes had a completely different influence on nature than one would expect.
This event is part of the serie 'Big History' organized in collaboration with TivoliVredenburg, The Centre for Humanities and the Centre for Global Challenges. For more information and other editions, please visit Big History #3 (in Dutch).
