Kick-off session: Social collaboration with the Network for Environmental Humanities

to

The Network for Environmental Humanities (NEH) invites you to join one of the three communities-in-the-making and become involved in developing partnerships, activities, and project (ideas) with societal partners.

Developing the NEH programme

During an inspiring brainstorm session on 26 February, a third theme for social collaboration for the Network for Environmental Humanities became manifest: Ecological In/justice. This umbrella term creates space for impact and research on environmental justice and activism; multispecies coexistence; politics and power, conflict and peace. The other two themes had already been established: Water Cultures and Climate and the Imagination.

Financially supported by the Faculty, we will develop a NEH programme aimed at fostering impact-oriented research and transdisciplinary collaboration. Many of our members have been active developing projects and partnerships in these last years. The faculty support now means an opportunity to take our activities to a next level by embedding them within the broader framework of the Network, benefitting from other members’ contacts and experiences, and creating synergy between your individual and the Network’s agendas.

Most of all, we expect this to be truly inspiring. We’ll be doing fieldtrips to potential partners, invite artists-in-residence, do outside the box (and in-the-box) activities, organise retreats to build consortia, and more. All are aimed at taking the time to listen to potential partners and learn about their needs and wishes, in order to build sustainable and long-term partnerships.

We want to do this together in a way that fits the character of our Network. On Thursday 18 April, we’re organising a kick-off afternoon session, where we can make an inventory of key activities and questions per theme and of possible (new and existing) partners. Time permitting, we may also work on an outline for how to proceed in the first year.
