On 10 April, the short film Three Fruits and No Less than Three: Tales of Traveling Feminists will be shown. Afterwards there will be a discussion with the initiators and makers of the film and Jamila Mascat. The event is chaired by Domitilla (domi) Olivieri. The movie is in Italian with English subtitles.

Sguardi sulle differenze

The documentary-style short film was realised last year by three graduate students in Literature and Philosophy at Sapienza University of Rome, Martina Manfredi Selvaggi, Lorenza Moretti, and Maria Giulia Prizzitano. It presents a series of interviews with eight Italian feminist from different generations who have experienced life abroad, either temporarily or permanently. The short film was realised within the framework of the Feminist Studies Laboratory Sguardi sulle differenze of Sapienza University, with all interviewees being current or former members of the Laboratory.

Thematic trajectory

Echoing the stages of a voyage, the interviews guide viewers along a thematic trajectory. Beginning with the various motivations that led the interviewees to undertake lasting and meaningful experiences abroad, it then traverses the complexity of being outside the borders, dwelling on three characterising dimensions: the effect of living among different languages concerning one’s identity and way of thinking and writing; the freedom to think and move elsewhere between autonomy, power and fear; feminism, between the continuation and evolution of relationships with their Italian network and the possibility of recognising themselves or not in other forms of relationality and political practice.

Three Fruits and No Less than Three aims to represent an examination of the intersections of individual agency, cultural belonging, and feminist consciousness. Through intimate storytelling and profound reflections, this film invites audiences to reconsider the meaning of feeling at home, belonging, and the transformative power of cross-cultural encounters.
