Exploring the Neutrality of Science: A Debate Forum

to

At the UU Centre for Entrepreneurship, we encourage students to try and be entrepreneurial. Being entrepreneurial is all about being creative and action-oriented, to create something new that has value for others. In this event series, we are facilitating events organized for & by entrepreneurial students.

Should scientists remain neutral for the sake of research integrity, or should they actively address societal concerns? Let's delve into these dilemmas together and engage in a dialogue that encourages us to reconsider our perspectives and prompts deep reflection. Step into a thought-provoking exploration of science's ethical stance in our upcoming debate evening, where you will not only broaden your horizons on a given topic but also develop argumentation skills and practice them in a dynamic discussion with your peers.

In this 1-hour debate forum, you will get the opportunity to learn how to make persuasive arguments and practice your skills in one round of the most dynamic and engaging debate formats called 'Lower house', where participants get to defend the side of a given topic they’ve been assigned to with their teammates while actively engaging with and responding to the opponents’ arguments.

This debate forum will help you increase your knowledge and challenge your assumptions on the hot topic of the Neutrality of Science by looking at it from different perspectives, enhance your confidence in effective reasoning and public speaking, and spark further curiosity in societal dilemmas.
