Chris Backes in parliament and media on the Dutch court ruling on nitrogen

Aanpak stikstof

Professor Chris Backes (Universiteit Utrecht) and lawyer, firm partner and UU alumus Marieke Kaajan (Envir Advocaten) briefed the Dutch parliament on 4 June on nitrogen, specifically the Programmatische Aanpak Stikstof-ruling by the Dutch Raad van State, the highest court there is. Backes and Kaajan presented before the Vaste commissie voor Landbouw, Natuur en Voedselkwaliteit and the Vaste commissie voor Infrastructuur en Waterstaat of the Dutch Tweede Kamer.

The recent court ruling of the Raad van State on the Programmatische Aanpak Stikstof (PAS) have great impact on the Dutch economy, from agirculture to aviation. Backes and Kaajan explained the ruling and proposed pathways to solutions, now that the PAS has been wiped off the table by the court.
