My research focuses on language acquisition, particularly first language acquisition and multilingual acquisition. Initially, my language acquisition research had a strong theoretical focus, involving the interpretation of pronouns and articles, and had a language-comparative (Spanish vs. Dutch) and population-comparative (children vs. aphasic patients) approach. Since 2009, I have been continuously involved in various (European) projects related to the integration of newcomers into the school system. Examples include the TRAM project (2009-2012, Comenius) and three consecutive EDINA projects (2015-2018, 2019-2022, 2023-2026, Erasmus+). I served as the coordinator for the first EDINA project from 2017 to 2018, and for the second project (2019-2022), I was both the coordinator and the applicant.

Currently, I teach in the following areas:

  • Language Acquisition (general, and with a focus on Spanish)
  • Intercultural Communication
  • Formal Spanish linguistics (syntax, morphology, phonology)

I have previously taught courses in Spanish language proficiency, translation (Dutch-Spanish/Spanish-Dutch), sociolinguistics, and historical linguistics. These courses were offered within the BA program in Spanish Language and Culture, the Master's program in Intercultural Communication (ICC), the Master's program in Education & Communication, and the Master's program in Multilingualism and Language Acquisition (MTV). I also serve as the coordinator for the latter master's program.

Finally, I work as a tutor and the "hoofdrichtingsadviseur" for Modern Languages in the Language and Culture Studies program (TCS).
