Jeroen Hopster is Assistant Professor at the Ethics Institute and researcher in the NWO Gravitation programme "Ethics of Socially Disruptive Technologies".

He obtained his PhD in Philosophy in the NWO programmme “Evolutionary Ethics” at Utrecht University (2019). Subsequently he has been a Rubicon-fellow on Climate Ethics at the University of Graz and postdoctoral researcher at the University of Twente in the ESDiT programme. He has had visiting fellowships at Harvard University, the Jagiellonian University (Kraków), and UniSR (Milan).

His academic research centres on topics in the philosophy of technology and climate ethics, with subsidiary interests in animal ethics, environmental ethics, metaethics, philosophy of biology. He has (co-)authored one academic volume and four philosophical books aimed at a broader readership, published in the Netherlands, Belgium and France, on the topics of Counterfactual History, Informal Fallacies, Comparative Philosophy and Buddhist Philosophy. A popular book on Chance & Contingency is near completion.

He is editor of the philosophical periodical Wijsgerig Perspectief and has a monthly discussion of contemporary moral dilemmas in Filosofie Magazine.
