Promotieprojecten

Bij de projecten van de volgende promovendi ben ik als begeleider en promotor nauw betrokken:

• Jelle Osinga (samen met Dr. Esther van Stappen (Avans Hogeschool), Dr. Pim Mak en Dr. Suzan van Brussel (Avans Hogeschool))

  Ons project richt zich erop om een effectieve onderwijsinterventie te ontwerpen voor kinderen in groep 7/8 van het basisonderwijs om ze te leren hoe ze bewust broninformatie kunnen toepassen bij het kritisch lezen van teksten. Door op vroege leeftijd in te grijpen hopen wij dat deze interventie bijdraagt aan verbeteringen op het gebied van tekst evaluatie, navigeren tussen meerdere teksten, en het construeren van een mentaal model vanuit meerdere informatiebronnen; vaardigheden die allemaal bijzonder belangrijk zijn in het huidige medialandschap.

   

• Geerke van der Bruggen (samen met Dr. Henk Pander Maat en Dr Leonie van Lent (REBO)) over begrijpelijke rechterlijke uitspraken (extern);

  Rechterlijke uitspraken zijn voor de meeste niet-juristen moeilijk te lezen. Dat is een probleem, omdat deze teksten ook bedoeld zijn om rechterlijke beslissingen te verantwoorden aan de samenleving. Dit onderzoek probeert te achterhalen op welke manier de functionaliteit van de rechterlijke uitspraak als tekstsoort kan worden verbeterd. Verschillende onderzoeksmethoden zijn gecombineerd om te onderzoeken wat niet-juridisch geschoolde lezers nodig hebben om uitspraken beter te begrijpen. Ook is onderzocht hoe ervaren tekstkwaliteit de acceptatie van rechterlijke uitspraken beïnvloedt. Het doel daarvan is te begrijpen hoe de schriftelijke uitspraak meeweegt in de ervaren procedurele rechtvaardigheid van procespartijen zonder juridische scholing.

   

• Houda Al Kalaf (samen met Prof. C. Jenks, Dr Barbara Schouten UvA)): Multilingualism in providing quality mental healthcare in migrants (grant Volkswagen Stiftung);

  "Multilingualism in Providing Quality Mental Health Care to Migrants – Needs, Resources, and Practices (MiM2M)" investigates the linguistic barriers Syrian refugees and Moroccan migrants face during consultation sessions with mental health care providers (MHCPs) in the Netherlands, focusing on the migrants’ communicative needs and the challenges MHCPs experience. The study uses a mixed-methods approach to design, implement, and evaluate a linguistically sensitive training program to improve communication between healthcare professionals and migrants with limited proficiency in the dominant language. The project employs a participatory approach involving local stakeholders in the Netherlands.

   

• Hanneke Houwer (HAN: samen met Dr Amber Oomen en Dr Els van der Pool (HAN)): Begrijpen werknemers wat er staat? Een empirisch onderzoek naar de verbetering van de begrijpelijkheid van de arbeidsovereenkomst (NWO-lerarenbeurs).
