Language reorganization following cerebral hemispherectomy

This project investigates reorganization of the language capacity in children after hemispherectomy (i.e. surgical removal of one of the hemispheres.) It will be the first attempt to examine reorganization of multiple domains within language from strictly computational (syntactic and therefore represented in the left hemisphere) to syntactic-discourse interface represented bilaterally in a normal brain. The proposal aims to fill in the theoretical gap in our understanding of both the extent and limitations of one isolated hemisphere.
