Renewal Sports centre Olympos

In May 2023, the Utrecht University Board of Governors decided that Olympos may expand with a hockey and football pitch and the rugby pitch will be artificially grazed. In addition, the sports centre may be renovated and remain at least the same in terms of facilities. As the location for the renewal and expansion, the scenario of the current location of the sports complex, in the north of the Utrecht Science Park, has been chosen.

What is Sports Centre Olympos?

Sportcentrum Olympos is the student sports centre of Utrecht University and Utrecht University of Applied Sciences. The complex, with three sports halls, four squash courts, one gym, two dance halls, one multi-functional hall, one spinning hall and a sports café, is located on the Uppsalalaan in De Uithof. Outside, facilities include three natural grass pitches, three artificial grass pitches, nine tennis courts, and four climbing walls. There are over 30 student sports associations associated with Sportcentrum Olympos, about 20 of which have the sports centre as their home base.

Sports centre to be renovated

In 2028, the sports complex, including two hockey pitches and a football pitch, will reach the end of its technical lifespan. In addition, the current supply of sports fields does not meet the growing need for sports.

Why is it being renewed?

The Utrecht Science Park aims to develop strongly into a lively area where meeting and interdisciplinary collaboration and study are central. A place for meeting, inspiration and knowledge exchange. Sport enriches the identity of the USP. To facilitate sports in the future, the current sports accommodation Olympos must be renovated and possibly expanded.
