Wim Hennink receives the KHMW Dr. Saal van Zwanenberg Ereprijs

Prof.dr.ir. Wim Hennink will receive the Saal van Zwanenberg Ereprijs on 14 November 2023, together with two other recipients prof. Joke Bouwstra (LACDR) and prof. Erik Frijlink (GUIDE/GRIP) for their achievements in the field of Pharmaceutics. Dr. Saal van Zwanenberg founded Organon in Oss exactly 100 years ago to isolate insulin from animal organs to be used by patients with diabetes. The Ereprijs is awarded since 1964 every two years, alternating between a clinician and a fundamental researcher in the field of drug research. 

Professor Hennink is an expert in biodegradable polymers for drug delivery with more than 600 peer reviewed papers, around 71000 citations and 22 patents. He acted as promotor of 91 PhD candidates. This has made him enter the Thomson/Reuters/Clarivate Highly cited researcher list in the field of Pharmacology and Toxicology and number 5 on the list of Best chemistry scientists in the Netherlands. Wim Hennink retired in 2022, as head of the Department of Pharmaceutical Sciences in the Faculty of Science.

The Utrecht Institute for Pharmaceutical Sciences is very proud to see that prof. Hennink is now part of a long line of honorable Ereprijs awardees, some of which were also UIPS professors: prof. Jan Schellens (2017), prof. Berend Olivier (2012), prof. Jos Beijnen (2010), prof. Bert Leufkens (2008), prof. Frans Nijkamp (2006) and prof. Daan Crommelin (2002). Since 2011 prof. Hennink worked in the David de Wied building named after prof. David de Wied who received the Ereprijs in 1986.
