In this project, Verweij will study highly energetic particles, obtained in accelerators by colliding nuclei with each other, to discover the structure of the quark-gluon plasma, the hot matter formed during the Big Bang.

The awarded funds will be used to hire a PhD candidate and postdoctoral fellow to study the inner workings of the QGP with data from the ALICE detector at the Large Hadron Collider at CERN.

START UP GRANT

In this fourth and last START-UP funding round, 7 grants have been awarded by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO). The grant, part of the Physics and Chemistry Sector Plan, enables recently appointed researchers in one of the areas of focus in physics and chemistry to form and develop a new research group.
