Start Public Engagement Fellows of the Open Science Programme

Even before the online kick-off meeting, the enthousiasm in the MS Teams chatgroup was tangible: “how wonderful to read all your inspiring introductions. I don’t know about you, but I am really looking forward to spreading this infectious enthusiasm for public engagement within, and beyond, the borders of the UU” one of the fellows noted.

That is exactly what this group of 15 fellows will be doing. They represent a diversity of disciplines, forms of public engagement, experiences and motivations. During the kick-off meeting on 1 October 2020 they got to work on questions such as: which message do we have about public engagement, and who needs to hear it? What makes interactions with stakeholders productive? Why do we need a dialogue about the public value of science?

In the coming months, the fellows will continue this conversation, to develop commitment to public engagement within their faculty, and to learn together how we can achieve good public engagement that contributes to research, education and society.
