Our focus area continues for four more years!

We're delighted to share the exciting news that we have secured an additional four years of funding! This ensures that the focus area Migration and Societal Change can continue from 2024 to and including 2027. The prospect of extending our work fills us with great satisfaction, particularly as we witness the flourishing community of migration researchers at Utrecht University.

Many initiatives, supported by our funding, have really taken root, with a special mention to the success of our five Special Interest Groups (SIGs): 'Reconfigure the Mobile Worlds: Engaging Migration with Contemporary Art', 'Citizenship and Immigrant Integration', 'Reception of the Russia-Ukraine war refugees in Europe', 'The rise of the radical right in Europe: An interdisciplinary approach', and the multidisciplinary PhD group.

Gratitude is extended to all who have been instrumental on this journey—past board and founding members, Christoph Baumgartner, Barbara Oomen, and Maykel Verkuyten, all our previous and current coordinators, student assistants and communication advisors. As well as the entire community of academics and non-academics who have engaged, collaborated, and interacted with us.

A heartfelt thanks goes to the Executive Board of Utrecht University, the Faculty of Law, Economics and Governance, and the contributions from the Faculties of Humanities, Social and Behavioral Sciences, and Geosciences for making our continued work possible.

As we embark on the next four years, we're brimming with enthusiasm. Plans are already in motion for two conferences in 2025 and 2027, along with film events, discourse gatherings, and informal meetings to connect colleagues across the university among many other things. We welcome and appreciate your contributions and ideas for events, eager to forge ahead together.

Best regards,

The board of the focus area Migration and Societal Change
