New PhD researcher at UCERF: Maaike Huijzer

As of January 1st, 2024, Maaike Huijzer has commenced her PhD research at UCERF. Huijzer will conduct legal-empirical research into informal families under the guidance of  Wendy Schrama, Charlotte Mol and Femke de Kievit.

An informal family is a family in which the parents live together affectionately but are not married or in a civil partnership. There are no specific laws for informal families. Instead, general property law applies. Application of general property law leads to legal uncertainty and the protective aspect of matrimonial property law is lacking. Maaike will investigate how the legal position of informal families can be improved.
