This is part of the Utrecht University real estate plan that was presented by Executive Board President Anton Pijpers on 23 September 2019. The main strategy is to face the future with sustainable, less costly facilities at two locations: the Utrecht city centre and in Science Park Utrecht.

The International Campus Utrecht that has been home to University College since it was founded 21 years ago, does not meet these requirements. University Utrecht will use the next few years for finding a new suitable location for the college. The actual divestment of the current campus is not expected to happen before 2025.

This means that the relocation will not affect the current students, nor students who will start at University College Utrecht before 2022.

“Letting go of our campus would not have been my choice”, says Dean James Kennedy in an interview with DUB. “But I really hope they’ll look for the best possible location for a new campus. It has to meet a number of conditions that are very important to us: the residential aspect, the integration of living and studying, and the sense of community.”
