Maarten Goos new professor of Institutions and Economics

Maarten Goos

Dr. Maarten Goos is appointed as chair of Institutions and Economics starting 1 September 2015. Goos will research the impact of the digital revolution on our society.

His research focuses on the interplay between technology and society, including various aspects of the labour market, including polarization  of the labour market, the impact of technological progress on the labour market, labour inequality and digital platforms. He works closely with scientists from other disciplines such as engineering, medicine, biology, history, law and ethics, as well as policymakers. Central to his research is the formation of  society in the future and the empowerment of the European economy and its institutions for the digital age.

About Maarten Goos

Goos’ research is published in leading scientific journals and magazines. He is a regular speaker at conferences in the areas of innovation, productivity, economic growth, employment and the ethical, legal, socio-economic and political consequences of technological development.

Goos holds a PhD from the London School of Economics (LSE) and worked at Princeton University, the Centre for Economic Performance at LSE, University College London, Fudan University, Erasmus University Rotterdam and the University of Leuven. Furthermore, he is currently working with a.o. the International Labor Organization, the European Commission and the Asian Development Bank.

Chair

Maarten Goos is will hold a 'designated chair' within the strategic research theme Institutions for Open Societies of the University of Utrecht. The chair focuses on conducting high-quality economic research in the field of institutions in a broad sense and is housed at Utrecht University School of Economics (USE).
