Law students won the National Round of the Telders International Law Moot Court Competition 2017

On Monday 13 March, the Utrecht University team won the National Round of the Telders International law Moot Court Competition 2017. This feat qualifies the team of four law students, coached by mr. dr. Otto Spijkers (Lecturer in Public International Law) and Rozemarijn Roland Holst LLM (‎Doctoral Researcher), for the international round of the competition, which will take place on 17-20 May at the Peace Palace in The Hague.

Zara Mathew and Sebastian Mellab, representing the fictitious applicant state of Twiga against the University of Groningen, fought tooth and nail to convince the judges to uphold the diplomatic immunity of the wife of an ambassador. Conversely, Alexander Scerri Herrera and Konstantinos Kakavoulis, representing the fictitious respondent state of Pundamilia against the Hague University of Applied Sciences, advocated against her immunity and claimed the breach of a military assistance agreement.
