Integrating a life skills and financial education curriculum into school systems

How can education systems integrate life skills and financial education into their curricula? UGlobe is working with Aflatoun, Meljol, and ChildFund to test the effectiveness of integrating Aflatoun’s life skills and financial education curriculum in Indian and The Gambian schools.

We recently held an RCT design workshop together with Aflatoun. This organization creates social and financial education curricula, implemented by their partners worldwide, reaching over 5.6 million children in 102 countries. Together, we will evaluate the effectiveness of their curriculum in India and The Gambia, together with their partner organizations Meljol (India) and ChildFund (The Gambia). In March, representatives of both implementing partners joined the design workshop held in Amsterdam, and together we discussed the implementation and evaluation strategy of the two RCTs. As the government of The Gambia plans to integrate Aflatoun resources into the national curriculum, Childfund will roll out the Aflatoun-infused curriculum in 2 regions to evaluate the optimal amount of teacher training needed for a successful change in the children’s social and financial well-being. In India, Meljol will implement the Aflatoun curriculum in after-school classes and facilitate community-engaged learning groups, which are hypothesized to reinforce the content of the curriculum.
