Coming-out day

Today is coming-out day! This day is the annual focus on coming out of the closet, or coming-out; the moment when people openly come out about their sexual orientation or gender identity.

We reflect on this moment today and raised the rainbow flag in front of the Administration Building this morning. Diversity Dean John de Wit did this along with board members of Anteros, the LGBTQIA+ student organization.

Coming Out Day is important for the visibility of everyone within the LGBTQ+ community, especially during this time and age where not everyone can be seen. This is why it is important for the university to give a voice for everyone in the LGBTQ+ community.

In this video from Dub Diversity Dean John de Wit and members of the student association Anteros talk about their coming out and advise students who struggle with their own identity.
