Call for Public Engagement Seed Fund closed

Do you have a good idea to engage an audience with your research?

Do you have a good idea for involving the public in your research, but no money to put it into practice? The Public Engagement Seed Fund provides grants of up to €5000. Researchers at UU and UMC Utrecht with a good plan for a public engagement activity can apply until 20 November.

Bringing science and the public together

The Public Engagement Seed Fund is meant for projects that bring researchers and a general audience together. A good public engagement activity can be distinguished by its clear focus on a specific public that is relevant in the light of the research (question) concerned. Thereby, interaction is very important and the focus of the application is on questions, methods, results and yields of (your) scientific research.

Two-way process

Public engagement involves a two-way process, which benefits audience as well as researcher(s). It can contribute to the societal impact of your research, but it can also enrich your research and yourself, as researcher and/or as a teacher.

In 2022, beautiful events will again take place in the framework of Utrecht 900, and the UUNited music festival will again be organised by Parnassos. Curious about Seed Fund predecessors? In the spring of 2022, the Seed Fund went to six researchers. For inspiring stories and experiences on public engagement there is the magazine In Beeld but you can also check our website

Open Science Fund

Employees of Utrecht University and the Utrecht University Medical Centre can apply to the Open Science Fund for an amount between 10,000 and 15,000 euros to realise an open science project. With a contribution from the fund, a team can make parts of their work open. Through the fund, employees (scientific and non-scientific) of UU and UMC Utrecht have the opportunity to experiment with working in an open science way.  The Open Science Fund is an initiative of the Open Science programme of the university.
