Call for Abstracts Sustainable Ocean Conference
The Sustainable Ocean Project is pleased to announce its final conference to be held Utrecht, on 3-4 September 2020. This will be the closing event of the project, which has been dealing with the following overarching research question since 2015: how can the law contribute to the sustainable use of the oceans and strike a balance between competing interests at sea?
Top speakers from around the world
Three distinguished keynote speakers will be in attendance: Prof. Jutta Brunnée (University of Toronto), Prof. Malgosia Fitzmaurice (Queen Mary University of London), and Prof. Catherine Redgwell (University of Oxford).
The conference will be structured around four interrelated themes:
- Due diligence as obligation and/or balancing standard;
- Balancing principles in international law interpretation;
- The role of regionalism in the accommodation of multiple interests;
- The role of state consent and the participation of other actors in international law-making and law implementation.
Submission of abstracts
Interested participants are cordially invited to submit abstracts of max. 500 words (accompanied by a selected bibliography of max. 10 references) on these four topics by 30 March 2020 to sustainableocean@uu.nl.
