Arno Hoes appointed Dean and Deputy Chair of the UMC Utrecht Executive Board

The Executive Board of Utrecht University and the Supervisory Board of the UMC Utrecht have appointed Prof. Dr. Arno W. Hoes to the position of Dean of the Faculty of Medicine and Deputy Chair of the Executive Board of the UMC Utrecht as per June 1, 2019. Arno Hoes will succeed Frank Miedema who resigned his post as per March 1, 2019.

With his background the UMC Utrecht is assured of an administrator who can make a substantive contribution to developing the evidence-based care of the future in the Utrecht region and beyond," says Caroline Princen, Chair of the Supervisory Board.

We have no doubt that Arno Hoes will play a stimulating and unifying role in the development of multidisciplinary research and education and the strategic research topics of Utrecht University,' says Anton Pijpers, Chair of the Executive Board.

Arno Hoes is Professor of Clinical Epidemiology and General Practice at Utrecht University and currently Chair of the Julius Center for Health Sciences and Primary Care of the UMC Utrecht. His research and teaching activities focus mainly on (early) diagnosis, prognosis and therapeutic interventions in cardiovascular disease and on clinical research methods. He has a wealth of experience in managing national and international scientific associations and was closely involved in drawing up range of national and international clinical guidelines.

He recently helped to set up U-TRIAL (part of the UMC Utrecht's strategy to perform more clinical trials aimed at improving daily practice) and The Healthcare Innovation Center (THINC) designed to make and evaluate care innovations within the shortest possible time frames.
