400+ Gamechangers at the OnderwijsFestival
On 9 March, UU's premier education event took place: the OnderwijsFestival. A day full of inspiring, informative, fun, relaxing and energising activities about our education. This year with a completely new set-up in festival style. And that had an effect: for the first time, many students also found their way to the Academiegebouw.
158 lecturers, 166 staff members and 82 students. They registered for one or more of the 28 sessions the programme had to offer. Some of these sessions proved very popular and were quickly fully booked, therefore additional sessions were added. Together, we put UU’s education in the spotlight through a varied line-up: interviews with gamechangers, workshops, round table discussions, poster presentations, the Teacher Awards ceremony, and, of course, plenty opportunity for valuable interaction.
But also relaxation with swinging performances by DeKoor Close Harmony and the band Mooi Weer Op Straat, Blijtanken, the compliment girls, watching films on lounge chairs, painting flower pots, the plant cutting market, a food truck and much more. In short, a whole day celebrating UU’s education for its makers: lecturers, staff and students. After all, education is something you create together.
The lecturers, staff and students met in various sessions to exchange ideas and get inspired about the quality and developments in education. Each and every one of them contribute to good education in their own way and are therefore gamechangers. For that reason, the theme of the day was: Gamechangers. Jij, ik, wij zijn het onderwijs. On yellow building blocks, each participant wrote what the ‘We’ in education means to them and what they would like to build together. This produced a beautiful wall of building blocks full of ideas and thoughts.
Listening to everyone and constantly evaluating.
On the building block of PhD Candidate Information and Computing Sciences Jelle Oostveen, we read: ‘’That you can always brainstorm with colleagues or ask for advice.’’ He finds this day inspiring and especially great to see everyone so enthusiastically engaged in education.
The building block of Joëlle van der Weele, Student Affairs Assistant at the Faculty of Social and Behavioural Sciences, reads: ‘’To me, ‘We’ really means working together with every layer, every day, for the common goal, and in doing so, using everyone's talents.’’ She really enjoys the OnderwijsFestival. "Normally, you are in a way on an island, in your own faculty. I find it very valuable to meet so many nice other people."
To me, ‘We’ really means working together with every layer, every day, for the common goal, and in doing so, using everyone's talents.
History student Monika Antal is at the OnderwijsFestival to support her lecturer Jorrit Steehouder, who has been nominated for the Teacher Talent Award. Her building block reads: ‘’A nice atmosphere during lectures due to a good relationship with the lecturer and fellow students.’’
Associate Professor Geosciences Karin Rebel finds the OnderwijsFestival ‘’Fantastic’’ in one word. "What an atmosphere, it was so vibrant, and a great programme in terms of content. I really liked the session 'Give student assistants the recognition they deserve' on Student Qualification Education, also known as StuKo. You notice that students themselves want to professionalise.’’
