Academic and Professional skills courses
During the first semester, you are offered an Academic and Professional skills programme by professionals who coach and train you. Thus, during your studies you will learn to act professionally in an organisational context on the basis of real-life cases. The issues you advise on are introduced by stakeholders from private, public or grassroots organisations. Through role plays and simulations, you practice skills, explore behaviour and learn to act accordingly. In addition, you work on your personal development regarding the question ‘what does work mean for me now and in the future’ and learn to make conscious choices. Alumni consider this knowledge and experience to be of great added value when making the transition to a suitable career and functioning as a professional.
In our international classroom, students draw from critical theories to unpack grand challenges and understand how civil society tackles them for systematic and institutional transformation
Learning by doing
Following our problem-oriented educational model, you learn by combining academic knowledge with practice on an individual and collective level. Building on the collaboration between students, partner organisations, and lecturers, this programme provides a unique space for dialogue and exchanging perspectives and practices to create social impact. During your fieldwork research, you will be part of an organisation where you learn through practice and carry out action-based research that is theoretically informed, methodologically sound and socially transformative.
Educational methods
The programme relies on a wide mix of educational practices, from interactive lectures to seminars, group work, simulations, individual and group assignments (e.g. essays; presentations; case studies; podcast episodes; and writing for popular audiences). We opt for small-scale, activating, problem-based and research-driven education with a practical approach prioritising social transformation.
