The documentary: War on Education

to

After two years of the Russian full-scale invasion of Ukraine, it’s crucial to reflect on the enduring impact of this war. While the media often highlights the visible – Russian attacks on Ukrainian cities and the news from the frontline, one critical aspect remains largely overlooked: the impact of war on education.

UU Centre for Global Challenges (UGlobe) and the strategic theme Dynamics of Youth from Utrecht University advocates for accessible and safe education for all kids, regardless of their background or circumstance. In alignment with this mission, we are thrilled to announce the viewing of the full-length documentary “War on Education”. This film is produced  by Euroclio (the European Association of History teachers) and dives deep into the far-reaching consequences of Russian aggression on the Ukrainian education system.

Featuring insightful interviews with prominent figures from international NGOs, governmental bodies, journalists, and educators, “War on Education” deeply covers this issue. The Minister of Education and Science of Ukraine, as well as Emmanuelle Abrioux, Chief of Education at UNICEF Ukraine, and other notable characters in this field, share their invaluable perspectives as well as possible solutions for the problem.

After the viewing a discussion will be held with the audience guided by prof. dr. Joost de Laat who is director of UGlobe. Contributers are dr. Bjorn Wansink  researcher in peace and history education and Steven Stegers director of Euroclio and producer of the movie. Other contributing experts will be announced later.
