‘Worldwide challenges for agricultural water management in river deltas, and their consequences for the environment, food security, and society’.

Coastal river deltas are unique landscapes. Densely populated, they tend to be hotspots of economic activity, including food production. They also experience tremendous environmental pressures, related to climate change, human interventions and other changes. People’s livelihoods in many of these deltas are at risk due to a complex interplay of human and natural processes. The Prins Claus Chair 2018-2020, Veena Srinivasan, and Future Food Utrecht invite you to join us in this online seminar next 8 December 2020. The meeting will address issues relating to climate change, intensive food production and other challenges in especially Asian and African river deltas. Several speakers will present their work on how farmers and communities cope with these challenges and respond to government interventions. The discussion on Asian and African deltas will be followed by a reflection by Martin Wassen on the parallels with the Dutch situation.
