Healthy Planet
The theme of the Dies Natalis is Healthy Planet. Our planet is under pressure, facing complex challenges in areas such as sustainability, health and climate change. Urgent and transformative action is needed. Anniversary Address
The Anniversary Address will be given by Ajay Bailey, professor Geographies of Health, Inclusion, and Development. His research is at the intersections of health, ageing, and inclusive cities with a focus on the challenges faced by marginalised communities in the Global South. Healthy Planet highlights the critical connection between human well-being and the health of the Earth’s ecosystems. By integrating equity and justice into environmental solutions, we can foster resilience, improve health outcomes, and ensure a fairer future for all.
Honorary doctorates
Two international top-level academics will receive honorary doctorates during the Dies Natalis: Harini Nagendra and Cathryn Tonne.
Teacher Awards
After the presentation of the honorary doctorates, we will additionally celebrate the winners of the Teacher Awards and present the Alumnus of the Year Award. Dekoor Close Harmony will provide a musical intermezzo.
Farewell of Henk Kummeling
This Dies Natalis also marks the farewell of Henk Kummeling as Rector Magnificus of Utrecht University. Over the past years, Henk Kummeling has made a significant contribution to the development of university teaching and research, as well as to fostering connections with society. He has been a driving force behind the transition to Open Science and initiated the further development of the Utrecht University teaching model.
Henk Kummeling has indicated that instead of a personal gift, he would prefer a contribution to the Equal Opportunities Fund of the Utrecht University Fund. For more information visit Education is always the answer.
