Geraldien von Frijtag's latest research concerns Jewish-gentile relations in the Netherlands during the Holocaust. This has led to different initiatives, like a two week international workshop at the United States Holocaust Memorial Museum in Washington in 2016, a special issue on microcosms of the Holocaust in 2019, and a monograph of the Dutch town of Hilversum during the Nazi-occupation, with a particular interest for the Holocaust in this town in 2020. Her next project, 'Provinzentjudung: Local Dynamics and the Holocaust in the Netherlands (1925-1950)', will take off in February 2023 (see below). On a longer term, Von Frijtag aims to publish on Zionism in the Netherlands (1850-1950)

‘Provinzentjudung’: Lokale dynamiek en de Holocaust in Nederland (1925-1950)

Ruim een derde van de circa 104.000 uit Nederland gedeporteerde Joden kwam uit stadjes en dorpen buiten de Randstad. Hoewel er steeds meer lokale studies verschijnen, is er weinig systematisch inzicht in de impact van lokale (f)actoren op de Jodenvervolging. Dit onderzoek sluit aan bij de internationale trend om de Jodenvervolging niet alleen als centraal geleid, maar ook als lokaal ingebed proces te zien. Tegelijk stijgt deze studie van de ‘Provinzentjudung’ in Nederland uit boven het lokale perspectief door haar vergelijkende benadering en aandacht voor intercommunale verbanden en hun invloed op vervolging van en hulp aan Joden.
