Language acquisition, processing and disorders

Thomas St. Pierre is an Assistant Professor in the Department of Languages, Literature and Communication. His research investigates the interplay between linguistic knowledge and social cognition in development, focusing both on how children use social information to guide language processing, and conversely, how children use information in speech (e.g., accent) to make social judgments and inferences about others. He is also interested in how children use language to construct/negotiate their identity.

Prior to working at Utrecht University, Thomas completed a postdoc in the Child Language and Speech Studies Lab at the University of Toronto, and before that, a PhD in Linguistics and Cognitive Science at the University at Buffalo.
