Historian with a research focus on the social and cultural contexts of (scientific) knowledge and technology, and on movements and use of this knowledge and technology to and in other domains.
Research projects:
(1) the historical development of drug markets, the role of (illegal) knowledge or outlaw science, and the convergences of illegal economies with each other and with the legal economy. After completing a study of drug smuggling and the Netherlands in the 20th century (Drug Smuggler Nation: Narcotics and the Netherlands, 1920-1995, Manchester University Press, 2021; https://manchesteruniversitypress.co.uk/9781526151391/ ), research focus is now on the hsitroy of organised crime.
(2) the development of non-anthropocentric history and its translation in science communication and public engagement.
