Together with my team I investigate 1) how viruses usurp cellular proteins for virus replication, and 2) how the innate immune system detects and prevents infections as well as tumor cell formation. To investigate this, we use innovative genome-wide CRISPR(i/a) screens, that allow us to simultaneously interrogate thousands of (human) genes for their role in virus infections and the immune response against pathogens. The ultimate goal of this research is to discover novel therapeutic targets that strengthen the immune response and depress virus infections.
