Jurgen Rienks' research project regards the legal protection of academic freedom and institutional autonomy (AF/IA) of universities within the EU context. 

At EU and member state level, concerns are growing regarding threats against AF/IA and the level of protection. Against this background, how can within the multilevel governance of the EU the legal definition and the protection of AF/IA be enhanced?
