Reseach with Funda data
My research agenda focuses on online search behaviour on the largest online housing platform in the Netherlands, Funda. Two pilot projects related to this research have been awarded GCP Research Credits from the Google Cloud Platform Education Grants Team.
• Pilot "Online housing search behavior" (2018), GCP Research Credits with value of $15,000.
• Pilot "Online search and gravity models" (2019), GCP Research Credits with value of $10,000.
Research Article on online search flows
In the Research Article "Online housing search: A gravity model approach" (with J. de Bruin, 2021) a gravity framework is applied to aggregated search data of Funda. We show that gravity describes the patterns of inflow and outflow of hits (mouse clicks, etc.) from one municipality to another, where the municipality of the user defines the origin and the municipality of the property that is viewed defines the destination. The Research Article is published in the PLOS ONE (16(3): e0247712). Apart from that, a discussion document that explores the novel data is available in Dutch.
'Learning with the Google Cloud Platform' (funded by the Research IT Innovation Fund)
My research with the Google Cloud Platform has also resulted in a guide that covers the lessons that I have learned about doing GCP research projects: "What to know about the Google Cloud: A non-technical guide for academic staff" (October 30, 2020). It is meant to prevent UU researchers from reinventing the GCP wheel over and over again.
