He is associated to the Willem Pompe Institute for Criminal Law and Criminology since 2002. Before that, he worked at the Public Prosecutor's Office at the Court of Appeals in Den Bosch. In 2017, he received a Ph.D for his dissertation on public prosecutors.

In 2018 he became a member of the Core Team of the Montaigne Centre for Rule of Law and Administration of Justice. In 2019, he was appointed associate professor. In the same year he started as programme leader of the Criminal Law Master Programme. In 2022, he gave up this position to become the Chair of the Board of Examiners for the Masters programmes. In the same year, he became one of the programme leaders of the Montaigne Centre. His appointment as full professor of criminal procedure law followed in 2024. 

In his free time, he plays drums in a covers band (Leuk dat je d'r bent Band).

Between 2003 and 2013 he has been a member and vice-chairman of the Police Complaint Committee in Den Bosch.
