Erik Teske graduated at the UtrechtUniversity in 1981. After an internship and residency he became a specialist internal medicine in 1986. From 1987-1989 a KWF-fellowship in clinical oncology was performed at the National Cancer Institute in Amsterdam. In 1993 he defended his thesis on non-Hodgkin lymphoma in the dog. From 1992 he is a full staff member of the Department of Clinical Sciences of Companion Animals, where he is currently head of the Medical Oncology. In addition, he is professor in medical oncology at the university in Liege. His area of expertise are clinical cytology, epidemiology, and oncology. In the field of oncology especially non-Hodgkin lymphoma and prostate carcinoma in the dog have his focus of attention. He has written more than 130 publications in refereed journals, 17 book chapters, and more than 160 other publications. He has given over 150 invited presentations at international congresses. For some 25 years he has been co-organizing an ESAVS course on internal medicine for European practioners.

Dr. Teske was the first president of the EuropeanCollege of Veterinary Internal Medicine, has been president of the European Board of Veterinary Specialisation, and is currently still president of the Dutch Board of Veterinary Specialisation. For his contribution to specialisation he received the EBVS Award for outstanding contributions to veterinary specialisation in Europe in 2016. He is double boarded in the ECVIM-CA in internal medicine and in clinical oncology. He is Honorary Member of the ECVCP, the GVS and GGG of the RNVA and was awarded the WSAVA Hill’s Excellence in Veterinary Healthcare Award in 2006 and the WSAVA International Award for Scientific Achievement in 2016. In October 2017 he was awarded an Honorary Doctorate at the Faculty of Veterinay Medicine and Animal Sciences of the Swedish University of Agricultural Sciences, Uppsala, Sweden.
