Elisabetta holds a Ph.D.-degree in 2001 from the Vrije Universiteit Amsterdam, for her thesis ‘Problems of EC Public Procurement Law in case of privatisation and the fight against corruption and organised crime’. In 2002 her research project ‘Questioning the Fundamental Legal and Economic Presuppositions and Principles Underlying the EC Public Procurement Directives’ was rated ‘excellent and innovational’ by the Netherlands Organisation for Scientific Research (NWO) and the Royal Netherlands Academy of Arts and Sciences (KNAW) and received a substantial grant.

In 2011 she was one of the 25 'top-scientist', invited to present their idea’s during the dinner in the Ridderzaal in The Hague, the so called 'Knights' Hall' (the throne hall), at the 12th ‘Evening for Science and Society’ (De Avond van Wetenschap en Maatschappij 2011): see http://www.avondwenm.nl/downloads/tafelwetenschappers2011.pdf

On November 2016, the 26th she has being appointed by ministerial decree for the period of four years in the National BIBOB Supervision Commission. BIBOB is the abbreviation of ‘Bevordering integriteitsbeoordeling door het openbaar bestuur’, the Public Administration (Probity Screening) Act.
