Innovation and Sustainability

Research focus: Demand-side mechanisms for innovation and sustainability - innovation procurement, circular economy, and standardization

Anne Rainville is assistant professor at the Copernicus Institute of Sustainable Development, Utrecht University. She studies the dynamic interplay between governments and markets, and how the demand-side can be leveraged to trigger and steer innovation. Her work crosses the boundary between academic research and on-the-ground practice, and she enjoys developing decision-support methodologies for complex problems. Connecting theory and practice in this way serves as a driver to improving processes and outcomes, and helps inform policy measures.

Anne serves as an expert for Horizon 2020 and Horizon Europe calls for the European Commission, on topics including interoperability, standardization, and public procurement in the securities sector, and has presented upon invitation for international organizations including the World Bank and United Nations.
