J.R. (Jennifer) Casey

Jennifer Casey completed her B.S. in Chemistry at the California State University of Long Beach in 2007 and her Ph.D. in physical chemistry at the University of California, Los Angeles in 2014. At UCLA, Jennifer joined the group of Dr. Benjamin Schwartz where she investigated the structural properties of the hydrated electron using mixed quantum/classical molecular dynamics simulations. After obtaining her Ph.D., Jennifer worked as a visiting-assistant professor at Sonoma State University from 2014-2015 and at Loyola Marymount University from 2015-2016. In 2016, Jennifer joined the instructional faculty at UCLA, where she teaches general and organic chemistry as well as performs chemical education research. She was awarded the university-wide Distinguished Teaching Award in 2019 and the department-level Teaching Award in 2020. Jennifer is currently on a leave from UCLA as she spends some time living in the Netherlands. Her current role is Education Development Officier for the Department of Chemistry at Utrecht University.
