• aquatic biogeochemistry and microbiology - regulation of microbial function and activity by (micro)environmental factors and mass transfer phenomena
• benthic primary productivity - photosynthetic, chemosynthetic
• bioirrigation - effects on sediment biogeochemistry
• method development - focus on high spatial resolution analytical methods (microsensors, imaging)
