Profiel

I am an Assistant Professor (UD) at the Department of Language, Literature and Communication (TLC) of Utrecht University. My research is embedded within the Utrecht Institute of Linguistics and spans three domains: sociolinguistics (sound change, imitation, language attitudes), sociophonetics, and second language acquisition (acquisition of variation, language policy, fluency, accent, attitudes).

Between October 2011 and September 2015, I worked as a PhD at the Utrecht Institute of Linguistics OTS, Utrecht University (The Netherlands). The project was financed by a NWO four-year doctoral scholarship (Promoties in de Geesteswetenschappen) for my project "Solving the actuation problem: the role of perception in sound change" and supervised by dr. H. Van de Velde and Prof. René Kager.

The project is about sociophonetics and variational linguistics. The research is aimed at studying sound change in progress and addresses the actuation problem. The outputs of this project are my PhD thesis “The Actuation of Sound Change and a range of published and coming articles (see my publications).

I got my MPhil degree in linguistics from the Utrecht University (The Netherlands) in 2011, my MA degree in Dutch-German from the University Ghent (Belgium) in 2009 and my BA degree in Dutch-German from the University of Namur (Belgium) in 2008.
