Prof. dr. Geert Buelens together with lecturer in modern literature Evelyne Shamier MA, hosts the podcast Leest Spreekt, in which neerlandistics, literary scholars and cultural historians on current issues in Dutch literature and culture. The podcast is an initiative of Leest, the open scholarship platform on Dutch literature and culture.

Current affairs

In the podcast series, Buelens talks to various experts on a variety of topics, all related to recent events in Dutch literature and culture. Each episode focuses on a topical issue, such as a new publication, research project or general social discussion. This keeps listeners up to date with the latest developments and broadens their view on current affairs.

Something for everyone

The podcast provides a platform for all kinds of different experts from Utrecht University. For example, in episode 3, Emeritus Professor of Business History Prof Keetie Sluyterman was a guest following the historic climate verdict against Royal Dutch Shell. In episode 4, literature lecturer Johan Sonnenschein spoke on poet Herman Gorter and in episode 7, Modern Dutch Literature lecturer Dr Laurens Ham joined the discussion on freedom of speech, education and the difference between 'libel' and 'damage to reputation' because of the dismissal of critical ROC lecturer Paula van Manen. Episode 8 was on the theme of the past, present and future of reading education and here lecturer-researcher Early Modern Dutch Literature Dr Feike Dietz joined in.
