This page outlines the step-by-step process for completing your application to a Master's programme at Utrecht University. Please read this information thoroughly before starting your application.
To be accepted to this Master’s programme you need:
- An academic Bachelor’s degree with specific academic knowledge and skills. You can find these requirements in this document.

Bachelor’s degrees in Psychology from other universities, and other Bachelor’s degrees with similar orientations will be assessed by the Admissions Committee on the basis of the requested academic knowledge and skills.

As a graduate from a Dutch Research University you have fulfilled this language requirement.
Unsure if you qualify for admission?
In order to properly assess whether you are eligible for admission, it is important that we have the right information. It is therefore necessary that you apply through the standard admission procedure and submit the required documents. The Admissions Committee will then evaluate your eligibility and you will be informed of their decision by means of a letter of (non-, conditional or unconditional) acceptance.
Registration as licensed psychologist
With a Bachelor’s degree in Psychology and an individual course programme in Clinical Child and Adolescent Psychology, you will normally meet the theoretical requirements of the NIP for the BAPD (Basisaantekening Psychodiagnostiek) once you have finished the Master’s programme. However, you will have to check this once you have finished your Bachelor’s degree by obtaining proof of the coursework in Assessment (Verklaring Theoretische Eisen) from your Bachelor’s programme (see here whom you should contact).
If you are planning to start our Master’s programme in 2024/2025, please check in advance whether it is necessary to do some additional Bachelor courses to meet the theoretical requirements for the BAPD (please contact your Bachelor’s university).
There is no general pre-Master’s programme. In some cases you may be able to do a Summer School course to acquire knowledge or skills you currently do not have. This is for the Admissions Committee to decide, and depends on the availability of the specific Summer School course and the available places (first come first serve).
In order to be considered for a Summer School course you need to have most required knowledge and skills and only miss more advanced knowledge concerning Psychological Assessment and/or Multivariate Statistics. It is not possible to acquire any other required knowledge or skill via a Summer School.
Please always apply for the Master’s programme first. If the Admissions Committee determines that you do not meet all entry requirements, they will decide if you are eligible for a Summer School course.
