I am a Geo-Information Scientist at the department of human geography and spatial planning. My research and teaching focus on spatially modelling and analyzing the interaction between people and their environment. My main methods of expertise are geosimulation modelling and spatial optimization. Collaboration with domain experts is for me the most enjoyable as well as the most essential part of my work, as they have the theories and data about these systems that I need to build models.

The diversity in my collabroations is reflected in the wide range of analyzed human-environment systems. For example, I have worked on modelling patterns of urban expansion, simulating pedestrian movement in cities (with my former PhD student Gabriele Filomena), optimizing the location of erosion and fire prevention measures (with my former PhD student Moritz Hildemann), and assessing the environmental vulnerability of indigenous people in the Amazon (with my former PhD student Ana Rorato).
